FrameHotel began with a derelict lighthouse-keeper's estate and a simple rule: design in service of what's outside the glass.
The Frame Concept
A hotel built around what you can already see
Our founders didn't set out to build a hotel — they set out to save a view. The estate they found above Half Moon Bay had good bones and better light, and every decision since has followed the same logic that guided the first: figure out what the window already offers, then get out of its way.
That idea gave the hotel its name. A frame doesn't compete with what's inside it — it holds the view still long enough for you to actually see it. Twelve years on, from the first eighteen rooms to today's forty-eight, that's still the only design brief we work from.

2013
A cliffside ruin, reconsidered
Founders Eleanor and Marcus Voss acquire a derelict lighthouse-keeper's estate above Half Moon Bay, drawn to the way its windows framed the cove.
2015
FrameHotel opens its doors
Eighteen original rooms welcome their first guests, built around a single rule: every window earns its view before anything else is designed around it.
2018
The Lantern Room debuts
Our flagship restaurant opens behind a wall of glass, built around a sea-to-table menu that changes with what the coast provides each morning.
2021
The spa & thermal pool
A new wing, carved into the hillside, brings an infinity thermal pool, cedar sauna and six treatment rooms — each one facing the water.
2023
The Lantern Suite
Our signature suite opens in its own private wing, complete with a plunge pool set into the rock and a wraparound terrace above the cove.
2025
Forty-eight rooms, one philosophy
FrameHotel now holds forty-eight rooms and suites across six categories, still guided by the founding idea: let the frame do the work.
